“ A goal is a dream with a deadline.”- Napoleon Hill
Why it’s important to have goals!
A common reason that many people don’t have what they want in life is because they don’t know what they want! They don’t have any clear goals.
You know what you don’t want, right? Most of us are experts at what we don’t want. I bet if I asked you to tell me 10 things in your life that you’re not happy about, you could reel them off easily. You may not be happy and fulfilled with your life as it is now, but do you know what it is you would like instead?
To get your life the way you want it, you need to first take the time to sit and think about what will make you happy. Only when you’ve discovered what your wishes and desires are can you begin to work towards them. Without this clarity, people wander aimlessly through life and then wonder why they’re not happy and fulfilled.
Having a clear set of goals:
• Encourages you to aim high and to strive to be the best that you can be.
• Gives you a clear direction to follow.
• Inspires you to start moving towards what you want and motivates you to keep going.
• Helps you prioritise your activities in the time you have.
• Keeps you on track and prevents you from getting pulled away from what’s important for you.
• Allows you to break down dreams and desires into the necessary steps to take in order to achieve them. This will prevent you from becoming overwhelmed with the largeness of a big goal and help you to see that it is achievable when it is broken down into smaller parts.
Goals and Your Subconscious Mind
Your subconscious mind is an important tool to use in creating the mindset that you need to succeed in life. This part of the mind is where all of your thought processes, habits, and beliefs are stored, many of them outdated. By using the power of this part of your mind, you can literally reprogram yourself to create the type of thought patterns and beliefs that will help you achieve what you want.
The power of the subconscious is truly amazing! When you decide what you really want and keep the end ‘in mind’; that is, focus on your desired outcome regularly, the subconscious mind will start to help you manifest what you want. It does this by helping you to notice opportunities and come up with ideas and solutions, which if you act on, will help you to move closer to where you want to be. Your subconscious mind’s creative powers will also be activated and will come up with ideas to help you too!
Your Inner GPS System: The Reticular Activating System
Your internal guide, the Reticular Activating System (RAS) within your mind, is comparable to a Global Positioning System (GPS) or a satellite navigation system in a car. Once you have programmed into the system where you want to drive to, it will recognise where you currently are and work out the best route for you to arrive at your intended destination. As long as you follow the instructions shown, you will arrive where you want to be.
In the same way, once you have decided what you want and ‘programmed’ this into your subconscious by regularly focusing on the desired ‘destination’ your RAS will start presenting you with resources, which were always there but previously went unnoticed, to help you achieve your goal. It will help you discover the best ‘route’ to reach your target.
